Watercolor Trees Steps
For this painting I used a combination of what I learned watching a zoom recording of Sonja Hutchinson Demonstrating "Loosely Applied Masking and Balancing of Warm and Cool Colors" the was recorded on September 11, 2025 and various youtube videos on how to watercolor trees.
I did this painting 3 times and I'm happiest with this last one (no you don't get to see the other 2).
For this final one I first used painters tape for the 3 large trees.
Then I applied masking fluid to those 3 trees using a credit card - side swipes. I carefully removed the painters tape and masked the rest of the trees. Then I painted my background color. The color was a mix of black, white, blue and green to get the hue I wanted. Some of the colors came through but you can't tell in the photo.
Then I allowed all that to dry and I erased the masking fluid - what a mess....
Then I painted the rest in stages. Third times the charm!
